I really don't like that my 13yo has internalized that there comes a point in a woman's life in which she has to accept the social dictate to be polite and unobjectionable, not do anything unexpected to rock the boat. Yes, I'm reading a lot into her objection. But the patriarchy's rules for women's etiquette is in the very air we breathe and I want to be seen challenging it in my small ways. (plea, I think a bike would be fun). But it's still kind of at the wishful thinking stage.
